What is Moondream?

Moondream is an open-source family of Vision Language Models (VLMs) designed for powerful and efficient visual reasoning. The platform offers three model variants: Moondream 3 Preview (9B MoE with 2B active params), Moondream 2 (2B Dense), and Moondream 0.5B (distillation target for edge devices). Unlike cloud-only VLMs, Moondream runs locally on CPUs, GPUs, and edge devices including Raspberry Pi, Jetson, and various NVIDIA hardware. The platform includes four integrated products: Open Models for commercial use, Lens for fine-tuning with API-based RL and SFT, Photon as the inference engine, and Moondream Cloud for hosted inference.
