A huge hand-made felt-and-embroidery appliqué panel, horizontal 3:2, a "find the hidden cats" picture in the spirit of a classic seek-and-find book: a busy amusement park seen from a high, wide bird's-eye view so that everything is small and there is a huge amount to look at. In the middle a big Ferris wheel with colorful gondolas; on the left a spinning teacup ride, a small toy train and a pond with round pedal boats; on the right a bumper-car rink with a queue, a roller coaster looping in the background and tethered hot-air balloons. A paved plaza runs through the middle, and a small parade is under way on it: about fifteen people dancing and marching behind a decorated float, with streamers and flags. Along both sides stand small stalls with scalloped awnings: a ticket booth with a counter window, a ring-toss stall with a prize shelf, popcorn, cotton candy, ice cream, a balloon seller, a pretzel stand, a shooting gallery. Behind them round trees, flower beds and a dusk-blue sky with stars. In front, a crowd of about 150 tiny felt-doll people, each doing something (kids with balloons, a child on a father's shoulders, a vendor scooping popcorn, a photographer, a drummer in the parade). A standing person is only about 3% of the picture height, every figure tiny and crisp with a stitched face. The look is the point: every shape is a cut piece of colored wool felt sewn onto a quilted cotton ground with visible blanket stitches, running stitches, satin-stitch fills and French knots, fuzzy fibres, little sequins and beads for the lights; warm cheerful palette of candy red, teal, mustard, blush pink, cream, leaf green and deep dusk blue. Seen flat from straight on in soft even light, like a photograph of a handmade textile artwork, not a digital painting or 3D render. Full bleed, no hoop, no frame, no border. Exactly one small logo: a small dark navy felt signboard hanging at the front of the balloon seller's stall in the right half, about 5% of the picture width, with a cream-thread embroidered cat paw print whose big pad holds a swirling ocean wave, and the word "Shoji" in cream cursive brush lettering to its right. Apart from that sign there are no letters, words or numbers anywhere. Exactly four cats are hidden in the scene and no other cat or animal anywhere (no fish, birds, rabbits, horses, plush animals, animal rides, mascots, masks or cat ears). The cats are all tiny, in the same band of the picture at the same distance, each in the open, never hidden behind anything, none in the lower third; the three real cats are each only about 1.5% of the picture height, about two fifths of a standing person, and wear a thin red collar with a tiny gold bell: 1. a black-and-white "hachiware" cat (black head and back, a white blaze splitting the face, white chest and paws) sitting upright on the counter ledge of the ticket-booth window on the left, next to the attendant; 2. a brown mackerel tabby (warm brown fur with dark stripes, white muzzle and chest) sitting upright on the prize shelf of the ring-toss stall, between star, heart and ball prizes; 3. a calico cat (white with orange and black patches) sitting on the pavement at the edge of the bumper-car queue, among the legs of the waiting people; 4. Shoji Cat, an upright orange tabby cat about three heads tall in a black leather jacket, denim shorts, cream sneakers and black wayfarer sunglasses with blue and red lenses, dancing with one arm raised on the path beside the Ferris wheel, a little taller than the other three cats. No dark round objects or dark animal-like shapes that could be mistaken for a cat. No watermark.
