A flat, graphic, gouache-like poster illustration of a giant stepped tower, a ziggurat of open reading terraces, seen straight on at night: a "find the hidden cats" picture in the spirit of a classic seek-and-find book, vertical 2:3. Limited palette of deep ultramarine blue, warm yellow, red and white with touches of green, with hundreds of tiny people in plain everyday clothes reading, writing, carrying books, climbing stairs and chatting. Clean and sharp: coherent perspective, perfectly straight railings and floor lines, natural proportions, clear tiny hands and faces, every object recognizable. An enormous white concrete tower of about 16 terraces with thin railings narrows toward the top and fills the lower two thirds of the picture, its summit slightly right of center, rising into a deep ultramarine night sky with a big flat pale-yellow full moon at the upper left and a few tiny stars. Each terrace is a row of small open rooms whose back walls are painted in flat color panels (blue, yellow, red, green, white): libraries with bookshelves, reading tables, a cafe corner, a map room, a music room with a piano, a classroom with a green board, a plant nursery, a laundry line, a small observatory dome on the top. The top terrace has a little garden with round trees and a telescope. Warm lamplight glows from the rooms. The widest terraces are cut off by the bottom edge. Staircases run along the right side. Every small story is different, so the viewer wants to explore every terrace. A logo appears exactly ONCE, small and unobtrusive: a modest dark brown wooden plaque hanging on two thin cords above the door of one reading room on the left-middle of the tower, showing a cream-colored cat paw print whose big pad contains a swirling ocean-wave shape, with the word "Shoji" in cream cursive brush lettering to its right (about 2.3 times wider than tall, about 6% of the picture width). Apart from that logo there are NO letters, NO words and NO numbers anywhere: books, signs, boards and clocks show only pictures, stripes and dots. Hidden cats (the idea of the picture): exactly FOUR cats are hidden in the scene, and NO other cat or animal anywhere: no cat ears, cat masks or cat heads on any person, no cat drawn on any sign, book or poster. The four cats are tiny and far from the viewer, each on a different terrace, in the open but easy to overlook: (1) a brown mackerel tabby (warm brown fur with dark stripes, white muzzle, green eyes) sitting on a red cushion in a reading room on the left-middle; (2) a black-and-white "hachiware" cat (black head and back with a white blaze splitting the face in two, white chest and white paws) sitting on the top rail of a terrace railing at the right-middle (not on the stairs), on four legs like a real cat, never standing upright; (3) a calico cat (mostly white with distinct orange and black patches) lying on top of a bookshelf in a yellow room in the upper middle; (4) Shoji Cat: an upright standing orange tabby cat about three heads tall with a round cheeky face, wearing black wayfarer sunglasses whose lenses are blue on one side and red on the other, an open black leather biker jacket with a silver chain necklace, rolled-up denim shorts and cream sneakers, pointing with one hand; he stands at the railing of the top terrace on the right, below the moon side of the sky. The tabby, hachiware and calico are real four-legged cats with a thin red collar and a tiny gold bell, no clothes; Shoji Cat has no collar. Each cat is TINY: only about 1.3% of the image height (roughly 20 pixels tall in a 1536-pixel picture), clearly smaller than a person's head nearby. NO cat appears in the lower third of the picture at all: the lower third shows only people, shelves, plants and furniture. No black or dark round object, no dark animal-like shape anywhere that could be mistaken for a cat; no animals other than the four cats. No watermark, no frame, no border.
